Snow Leopard - FREYDIS 46'- Hello from Tahiti
(...) We finally arrived in Papeete, Tahiti, and back to the sounds of a city after the tranquility of the Tuamotus.Snow leopard continues to behave wonderfully (touch wood). Not only is she fast, but also so comfortable, even compared to other catamarans. The motion is much smoother, I think primarly to the shape of the hulls. The speed of the Freydis is well known, but it continues to surprise us how we make such fast passages with ease and comfort. We crossed the 3000 miles from Galapagos to the Marquesas in 14 days with just the two of us on board, and we were sailing very conservatively. The only boat we have met that has matched our 14 days was a fully-crewed 90ft Swan! We then travelled the 540 miles from Marquesas to Tuamotus in 2 days, again with a crew of just two.As yet we have had no major problems with the boat. We have had to replace the water pumps on both Volvo, and continuously carry out routine maintenance, but that's to be expected.Snow Leopard has also proved to be very comfortable to live aboard, both at sea and in harbour. The high bridgedeck clearance keep wave-slap to a minimum. Other catamaran owners we have talked to have complained about the continuous pounding because of their boat's low water clearance. Of course we do get an occasional wave bang under the bridgedeck but it's acceptable.Because the deck profile of the Freydis is so sleek visitors to Snow Leopard are the surprised of the amount of room both in the saloon and in the hulls. All in all we could not have choosen a better boat for this voyage. The carbon mast is wonderful and draws many admiring comments.I just want to thank, firstly Erik Lerouge for designing such a fantastic boat and you and your boatyard for constructing Snow Leopard and for all the help and support you gave us throughout the project. We wish you all the success with your new |

Nan Fong- News from far away...
After a great stay in France ( more than two and half year without seeing our family!), we came back to Nan Fong in Australia. From Bundaberg, we sailed between the Queensland coasts and the Great Barrier Reef to Cape York, carried by a continuous South-East trade-wind. Downwind sailings which offered us great moments and proved once again the great qualities of our boat. Nan Fong surfed the waves and ate up the miles as she always did, with all comfort for her team. Then we crossed the Torres Strait and sailed along all the Northern Territories and so we arrived in Darwin. At the GPS, 27 948 miles from the small catway in Soubise on the Charente river 6 years ago, what for a great travel! Our voyage in Australia will finish in the couple of weeks. We appreciated the kindness and hospitality of its inhabitants, discovered some parts of this huge country, admired its landscapes and mixed with sea water crocodiles, kangaroos, jellyfishes, colorfull birds and flowers...for great excitements! Finally, 2 weeks in the Red Center for a great change of scenery and a discovery of Aboriginal culture. A fascinating stop to ad to our travel! From July 24th, we join the SailIndonesia Rally ( www.sailindonesia.net) which gathers each year a hundred of boats and simplify all indonesian procedures. Two months and half to travel Indonesia before arriving in Singapore in October, then it will be Malaysia, Thailand...to be continued! |

Gerard and his team on board of the AZULI
Since 1989, HARPO travels every ocean for the great pleasure of her Captain Gérad...She already sailed 3 times around the North Atlantic, not to mention the numerous cruises in the Mediterranean. 60 000, 80 000 miles...who knows! In any case, when you love it doesn't matter! In 2000, HARPO leaves for an outstanding family trip.We leave the Mediterranean with a tremendous gust of wind and, going through the Pillars of Hercules, here is HARPO which proudly brings us to the Canaries, the Cape Verde and then, after 4 days of sailing, , we are in Antillas. Then we head for Venezuela, Cuba, the Bahamas, the Azores and we are back again in Gibraltar, after 3 years of great happiness. But now Gérad and his team dream of new horizons!!!Why not the channels of Patagonia???OK, let's go!Thus, 20 years after, HARPO comes back to the yard in Soubise to be prepared for this new adventure. Philippe and his team are here to welcome and advise these high-seas-dreamers! Our 20-years-old friendship is always here, faithful! The building of the AZULI was such a great adventure! So, in summer 2010, we'll flow down the Charente river to the South and we promise to share with you all our feelings and the discovery of new landscapes... |
